The different times for services would be the best arrangement of all I’ve seen so far. Probably different pastors also would relate to different crowds also. I also liked how they used a church that was declining in attendance. This helps to save money when getting started. I also liked how he at least implied that they were trying sometimes to include both services together for different things, although he did not specify how. That helps to build the entire body not only one service. Displaying the art work on the church walls would also be neat to show how different people can express their worship in different manners. However, I disagree with Pastor Seay that the art during the services would be very distracting. The art work could be done before or after services or even on another day if it is convenient, but not during the service. People do not pay attention during the services the way it is.

I disagree, why the need two different pastors for the two church services? I agree with some of what you say but I feel one pastor could lead both services. There are many pastors that lead multiple services. If like you say there are two pastors, why wouldn’t you make them two different churches?

Okay Mark, that's a little freaky with the dual personalty responses.
West End Baptist Church in Houston is on board with what the Bible teaches as worship. Worship isn't the songs we sing. If it was, in our eyes we've dethroned God to an earthly throne, in which He sees things the way we see things. That is not the case at all. God is God. Worship is the intent and affection of our heart to a King who saved us from a lifestyle of sin and a place called Hell. I think western cultures sometimes limit worship, in which God intends every action, every move, every word spoken to bring worship to Him. West End Baptist Church is trying, with the Holy Spirit's help, to worhsip God in everything. Being visible reminders of the Holy. For me to say their doctrine is off, without further study, would be ignorant.

Mark,
I don't know which response to comment on. I'm not going to lie, it was pretty creepy, but when nobody has done their work, and you want to pass, what else is there to do? I agree with your second response. A pastor should, and must, bring all age groups and cultural backgrounds together at the feet of Jesus, not a pastor for each group. I disagree, though, that the art should be done some other time of the day. Art is worship. Why shouldn't it be a part of the service? God has gifted a pastor to preach, He's gifted a musician to play a musical instrument, and He's gifted an artist to paint and to create something for the visual eye to see. I take great offense to your comment because I enjoy art, and believe with all my heart that God can use art to draw someone close to Him. I think you know what I'm getting at, Mark. By the way, next time.. don't be so creepy with the dual personalities. Lol.

I guess watching all these videos through the duration of this class I’ve determined that churches all over the world have issues. Even churches in the New Testament had issues, especially Corinth and its awkward issues. My thought concerning this church, is that there’s a complete separation of generational people groups. The seniors have no interaction or communication with the younger generation. The family is broken up. As a pastor, I believe he is to be the shepherd for the whole flock and with balance establish a united environment. I do appreciate their concept concerning worship and I don’t believe it stops there either. Arts are just one of many ways to worship God. (Trey Hyman)
Mark,
I think you have some great ideas concerning the displaying of painted art in the church. I had some different ideas but yours good as well. One thing I’ve come to appreciate in this class is that we may be totally opposite and have different opinions about topical issues within the church but in the end as long as we love God and love each other and stay obedient to what He has called us to do, everything else will fall in place. (Trey Hyman)
John,
You brought out a good point. I did not mean no art, but that there is a time and place for art. I agree art is a part of worship, and God has gifted us according to His purposes. We can even have art in worship. The point I wanted to make, perhaps not clearly, is that the art should take place other than during the preaching or music. We do not have music and preaching at the same time because it would be confusing. I think art and preaching, or art and music at the same time would be confusing. I thought I saw the art and preaching together, and that was confusing for me, that’s all. I hope I clarified myself.
As for doctrinally, I agree. I thought they were good.
As for split personality, would you believe someone one time called me “normal?” lol
