This goes to show how important it is for people to have the scriptures in their own language. They need to be able to read the scriptures for themselves. And each convert will be able to share the gospel with someone else, themselves and not the missionary share to each and every person. It is a daunting task when we consider for example just one country of the Philippines, for example have over 7500 different dialects. Now they have their own national language but not everyone speaks the national language. When learning to talk, the people put emphasis on learning their own dialect first, then the national language of tagalong.
Along with scriptures I the person testimony of the new Christians second. But there was a dramatic change in the lifestyle of the new believers. So even though the early believers were ostracized and persecuted, their positive testimony became the fuel that sparked the beginnings of a genuine people movement (I read revival), among the villages around the lake.” It took the changed lives of the converts, to interest people in hearing the gospel. But the gospel would never have been listened to without the person testimony making them wanting to heat it. It takes both scriptures and our changed lives.

(Thayer Lawson) communication is important. It’s important in all walks of life. The different variety of ways to translate and interpret the Bible can cause a great deal of differences here in America. Dialects and interpretation varies. Certain parts and areas in the cities interpret the simplest words different. For example if you call a person “friendly” in the ghetto you’re insulting the individual, unless they are not influenced by the ghetto vernacular. But if you call a person “friendly” from outside the ghetto they interpret it as a compliment. I understand totally how the dialects can lead to some confusion. I commend the effort to translate the Bible in the multiple languages. To show them that our God do speak their language.
Wow! I had no idea there were so many different people groups and languages. I like the story about God being smart enough to speak Cakchiquel language. The Wycliffe Bible translators have big job. I have a friend that is a missionary with Wycliffe in Fort Worth. It is sad to think of the reality of the massive amounts of people groups that are not being reached. The ratio of missionaries to people groups is alarming. I know God is sovereign and in control, yet I think we need to get busy and get more missionaries out into the uttermost parts of the world. “If your God is so smart, why can’t he speak my language?” A question like that should convict and burden our hearts to work even hard at getting the Word of God out there and into these different multiple people groups and in their various languages and dialects. The author stated at end of the article that missionaries will never really know how many people groups there are until they “take the plunge” and live among the people. With such a large number of people groups without the Word of God, it kind of speaks of those who have taken the plunge but maybe didn’t have the resources they needed to translate. That’s why I believe it’s vitally important to support those who have devoted their time and service into getting the Word of God sent out into the world. (Trey Hyman)
