This article goes to further prove we need to be extremely careful in how we treat not only foreign students but all people. We are called to be light but not a blinding light.
I still think the UTA campus is a great area for outreach and ministry. Many students are away from home for the first time, and many are from other countries too. I asked why there is not more outreach into the UTA campus. I think churches could advertise in the campus phonebook or maybe if they have a campus paper. Also they probably have some kind of welcome package to introduce the students to the campus and the local area. If bars, hair saloons and restaurants can buy ads why can’t churches?
I know the campus has many faiths ministering on campus, even Baptist. I would think that would be a good place to begin. I mentioned it to my pastor and other pastors too, but I haven’t heard of anything being done.
Does anyone know about something I don’t?

What an amazing opportunity we have. I have personally had this opportunity given to me. A young Russian girl named Sveta came to America three years ago. I have had the privilege of visiting her and witnessing to her on a few different occasions. I am sad to say that she has yet to accept the Lord. It has been over a year since I saw her last. She had all the characteristic of a young foreign student mentioned in this article. She has become very private. She doesn’t want to be social. She longs for home, yet home is no longer what it was when she left. She is lonely. I have tried to help her, but I am ashamed to say that my life has been so busy I have let it get in the way of my spending time with her. This article has stirred up a new desire to reach out to her. I am glad for this gentle yet almost reproachful reminder of those God has brought to our front doors. May we all be more sensitive to those around us. (Meisha Deane)
Mark,I'm afraid we are all waiting for someone else to do something. We can advertise and try to get the word out about our churches, but I think we must do more. I know we are all busy with our own lives, but life is not going to get any slower. It is time we act! Relationships are so vitally important. This is what we as individuals need to be doing, reaching out to people personally. I am preaching to myself on this. The Lord has really gotten my attention in this area. (Meisha Deane)
I too had an opportunity in building a relationship with a foreign student. His name was Gal and he was from Mongolia. He stayed with one of our church families and at the end of his stay he accepted Christ as his Savior. If such an opportunity arrives at our door step it should natural as a follower of Christ to show them nothing but the love of Jesus in our lives. Let them see and know that being a Christian is more than religion, it's an eternal relationship with a living Savior. (Trey Hyman)
Hey Mark,
Just today I was talking to a good friend of mine that graduated from Arlington Baptist College about reaching out to international students at UTA. He said that currently every Thursday night they have a dinner for the international students It's designed so that Christians can come eat with the foreign students and establish relationships and it also opens opportunities to share the Gospel. He said that there has been many come to know Christ as their Savior. In fact he invited me to go with him next Thursday. Prayer for my friend and I, that we would be Spirit filled and ready to build relationships. (Trey Hyman)
Trey,
That is great. Praise God. I certainly will be praying for you. Thursday night, most dinners about 7:00, that will work out great my lunch is at 8:00. So I can be praying for you then. This is great because I was not even aware anything like that was happening. No one could even tell me, thanks.
Mark
