The Gospel is Christ!  This man is very thorough in his teaching.  I have never heard a message on Jonah in this light.  Jonah has always been taught as the man that ran from God.  It is beat to see how Jonah shared the gospel with the Ninevites even when his heart wasn’t in it.  Imagine what he could have done if he had been doing it with all his heart. The mindset of too many Christians is the same as the woman in this message that said, “There is no limit what God can ask of me if I am saved by grace.   If we were saved by works we would still have some control.”   This is not salvation.   We understand that justification is by faith, but there are Christians that live selfishly.   I love his picture of the Christian as the coins in the coke machine.  We are so shallow.  We know what the Gospel is, but we don’t live the Gospel even though we are saved by grace.   Salvation is of the Lord.  Only when we realize and truly believe that Christ is The Gospel, will we be able to truly live out the Gospel in our lives. Supremacy of Christ and the Gospel
I think Tim Keller does an outstanding job of presenting how postmodernism is affecting the church and therefore how the church needs to change its approach. I understand I in no way understand all that was presented here. However, if I understand a little, in our sharing the gospel we need to take more time to share what we mean when we say the things we say. Like they say in cults class “define our terms”. Almost like the illustration of a diamond. We hold up the diamond for close examination and rotate it around to see each prism and facet of the diamond or in other words slowly rotate so each facet of the gospel for examination.
I only with he had actually shown this in action. I mean actually presented the gospel in a postmodern context.
I know I will need more exposure to this before I will understand it better.

Meisha,

I think the reason we have never heard Jonah presented in this light is this message was presented to pastors and preachers, not to the ordinary church member. However, this is the kind of thing we need to have preached in our churches though. Not this same sermon but this type of preaching, on this level. I believe that is why we have anemic Christians in our churches, and I believe why many people do not join the church because they see a namby-pamby Christianity, and no one wants a part of it.

Meisha,
I loved your statement, " Only when we realize and truly live out that Christ is The Gospel, will we be able to truly live out the Gospel in our lives. " It goes along with the " It's not about me. It's all about Him " concept. Nothing we have, nothing we teach, nothing we endeavor to do in the name of Christ is not of us. Yet rather, all about HIM! God is the ONE Who has given it all to us. We are completely undeserving...BUT GOD! It won't be until we truly grasp this that we can be effective in giving all the glory to the Lord( Bethany )

Not to get...but to spread....
" The center of Christian theology is not divine self identification but divine saving action...the whole purpose of human language is for the spreading of the Gospel. " How cool of a statement this is! God has given us so much. His prupose in doing so was not simply to make us happy. It was to show HIS light to others by spreading The Gospel. This is the ultimat purpose of God creating us. Now, it is our job to share and henceforth...SPREAD!( Bethany )

The Supremacy of Christ and the Gospel - Another perspective concerning the crisis or emergency of lost souls in postmodern culture dying and going to hell. The postmodern culture is just as lost in their sins as the Jews and Gentiles of the New Testament. We need to embrace that same passion of those faithful believers of New Testament and proclaim the Good News. Let the power of the Christ be revealed to those who will receive it. I believe that the Gospel still has the power to radically change lives. Why, because it contains the story of love that is stronger than death and greater than life. It's the power of Christ. Beth,

I totally agree with your response about spreading the Word. Droo, one of my best friends, made up a cool principle to challenge us to continue to proclaim the Gospel, it was "Spread the Bread". This principle has stuck with me over the years. I think it's crucial that we don't throw in the towel to this postmodern culture. It's so sophisticated that we don't see huge numbers of those being saved anymore but if we only reach one so be it. We have been bought with a price and we are no longer our own, we have been called to share, to spread. (Trey Hyman)
